HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY ROLLERS and ROLLETTES— After a bit of hiatus, Skeezy Does It is baaaaaack, and now without further ado – here’s a little run down of fun activities to do in Chicago!!!
It’s no secret that I am at Glascott’s A LOT, as in an unnatural amount of my time is spent there Tuesday through Thursday (by choice.) Typically, though, it’s my “I don’t want to call it a night so, hey, let’s go play some late night skeeball” place (if you haven’t stuck around for LNS, you’re missing out).
So, if you’re like me, the question is… what, oh what, do I do to spend the rest of my non-working hours outside of skee? Well, friends, gather round, cause this shit’s about to get real:
Dose Market
Full disclosure, I’ve never actually been to Dose Market. It’s one of those Sunday Funday things that’s been on my Chicago To-Do list pretty much since I moved here.
If you haven’t heard of Dose, it’s a monthly (second Sunday) market that brings in a variety of Chicago food and fashion (and more) vendors. In other words, you get to look at fun things while drinking and eating to your heart’s content. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. The shindig runs from 10am – 4pm at the River East Art Center.
WINE RIOT
Fact: I love wine (and you should too).
Let’s be real, I know you all are down with getting tipsy (that’s the polite way to go about saying it, mind you) and having fun, so you might as well check out Wine Riot if you’ve never been (or check it out again if you have). They only stop in Chicago once a year, so DO IT.
The Deets:
May 3 – 4 • $60 (keep reading if you’re cheap broke) • Grand Hall @ Union Station
250 wines from around da world • DJ • Photo Booth • Crash Courses
SPOILER ALERT: I’m volunteering during the day shift on Saturday, May 4 and then Wine Riot-ing my face off that evening. So if you want to come get sloshed on wine with me, I’ll be there (as will MJ “Wolverskeen” Luppino). If you want to get in for free, volunteer with me (last I heard, they were still looking for folks)! You’d get a spiffy shirt to boot (see above).
Also — if you were at all envious of my AWESOMESAUCE trading card last skeeson, this is where the photo originated from. #JustSaying
Adler After Dark
If you like tripping out on “star” shows, this may just be the shindig for you. No joke. MJ and I went to April’s Astological-themed After Dark… we learned about some crazy weird romance stories of the astrological signs (go Aries!) and that you CAN win an Oscar for going sky high and drawing doodles to music.
In all honesty, it wasn’t too bad. The best part is that it’s chance to do all the fun things at the Planetarium without having to kick and shove the little kiddies (I apologize to any mommy and daddy skeeballas out there… best not bring me around your children).
Adler After Dark is a monthly 21+ night every third Thursday at the planetarium. You get star shows, a cash bar and a peek through the largest telescope in the Midwest (ooh snap). Tickets are $17 or cheaper for students (psst…. we know we still kept that student ID of yours for special occasions).
Next month’s (May) theme is the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Cosmos so mark your calendars now for May 16.
First Friday @ MCA
Orion’s belt and the Big Dipper not your thing? How about getting your (modern) art critic on? First Fridays at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) are also reserved for the 21+ crew. It’s the same deal as before, admission scores you museum access, live entertainment and complementary hor d’oeuvres. Sadly, the bar is also a cash bar.
OOOOOORRRRRRR….. we could skip the critiquing and just get our mad art skills on. I’m down for a BYOB painting class if you are: Bottle & Bottega (LP or South Loop).
Laser Tag
Lastly, as some as you may know, I’ve been wanting to organize a skee-outing to end all outings: LASER TAG NIGHT. I’m still trying to figure out a time. Unless we have an organized group (read: want to pay a reservation fee upfront to book the arena), we have to go on an off night (Monday – Thursday). Sadly, that conflicts with skee… so I’m thinking it’s going to get pushed back until June. When it happens though (which it will), expect this:
So there you have it. Once again, if anything or everything piqued your interest, give me a holler at LSkeezy@theskeeleague.com. It would be awesome to get a big group of league members (from all nights) together and have a fun night out!!!
Until then, take it Skeezy 🙂
